This is a very old project of mine, and although I would design it differently now, I still cherish the creative freedom and the experience of making my own unique book, from the concept, through the editing, designing, printing and finally bookbinding.
This book was designed especially for the "Most Beautiful Romanian Book' competition in 2012 and it was printed in only 3 copies. I selected the wittiest fragments of Pellegrino Artusi's 19th century Italian cookery bible and illustrated the book page by page, using type and simple geometrical shapes, composing elements of text to reflect, sometimes abstractly, the subject matter. I chose the font Filisofia and the colours to give the book a very elegant appearance, appropriate for such a classic title.
Then I had the pages digitally printed, I applied cloth to the cardboard cover and painted the letters on the cover through cut-outs of adhesive foil, using paint for silk-screening. Finally I case bound the book. It was shortlisted for the final of the competition and exhibited in Bucharest and Frankfurt. You can read more about the book here.
